May 2026 Newsletter
Hi everyone,
I hope everyone had a great Gymcat Spring Break and your girls got some much needed rest! I know the coaches enjoyed the break after the long season! Having this week can help their body and mind reset, although some of them will be sore after our practice yesterday! Since the season is over we will be putting more of an emphasis on strength and conditioning as this is a vital part of gymnastics and helping them progress.
Speaking of progressing- USA Gymnastics has put out the new code of points for Levels 6-10 for the years 2026-2030. There have been some significant changes to requirements for these levels that will be effective starting August 1st. The being said if your gymcat is in one of those levels or attempting to move into level 6 the coaches are going to speak with your gymnasts again regarding the rules changes and how it will affect their journey moving forward.
Over the last 4-5 seasons the coaches collectively made a decision to not compete level 5 because of its similarity to level 6. Due to the current changes for next season to level 6 we are now considering having a group compete level 5 again. Level 5 has some great progressions in the routines that the coaches really like. It can just be a tough year with having to conquer the fear of going backwards and the strict standards of compulsory routines with lots of skills, mean scores tend to run lower than they are used to. The compulsory routines are set to change in two years and I believe more changes will be made to level 5 at that point so gyms are no longer skipping and the progressions make sense to everyone.
Gymnastics seems to be a sport of ever changing rules which can make it difficult for everyone involved to understand and process. Please note the coaches take level decisions very seriously in wanting to put your gymnast in a spot that will benefit her the most. I am going to keep the summer splits the same as I had them when talking to the girls after Regionals but please note that going into next school year they could change groups again after we work through figuring out where each girl will be placed. This mainly affects the Level 4's from this season.
Levels will not be officially determined until the end of the summer. If your gymnast was not moved up a practice for the summer it means that they still have a few skills they need to work on in their current level over the summer but they will still work upgrades as well. If they master all of the skills for the next level they would still have an opportunity to move up after summer. If there is an asterisk by your gymnasts name on the summer practice schedule it means we would like them to practice with that level for the summer but they might not be ready to compete it come meet season. As always these decisions are tough, the coaches want to see every gymnast be successful where they are placed. There is a lot of thought put into this schedule in making sure we are trying to benefit every kid on this team. Please remember repeating a level is not a bad thing! It can often give the gymnast a great sense of confidence and leadership moving forward.
Sign ups for summer and camp will begin after June 1st, you will need to stop into the front desk or send Coach Ashley an email.
Please email me if you would like to meet or need to discuss your gymnasts progress.
